Middle schools

First trips away, handled with care.

Middle school is where students first travel overnight: science camp, a capital city trip, a band festival, a robotics or quiz competition. Groups are bigger, rosters change, and families want to know exactly where their children are.

Approvals

More people need to agree

Overnight and out-of-state trips often need more than the principal's yes. Keep the travel approval in step with your school's process.

  • Trip leaders request; their named approver, such as the principal, decides
  • Restricted destinations: places that always need approval, or can't be booked
  • A trip maximum for the whole group
  • A change that costs more goes back for approval; same-cost changes don't

Paying for it

Trip, activity and fund

Many middle school trips are paid partly by families and partly by school or activity funds. Coding each charge keeps them apart.

Questions

Common questions

Can you hold seats before every family has paid?

Group space can be requested ahead of final names. How long it is held and when names are due depends on the airline, rail operator or hotel; we tell you the deadlines when we quote.

Students are minors. Can they fly as a group?

Yes, with the adults your school sends. Airline rules for minors vary, so we check them for the airline you choose. Supervision is the school's.

Do you run buses or coaches?

No. School buses and charter coaches stay with your district or your usual operator. silentVIP arranges intercity rail, flights, hotels, and car rentals and pre-booked ground transportation for airport transfers and groups.

Can students book themselves?

No. Students travel as guest travelers on trips your staff request. Live self-service search across airline and hotel inventory is not available today. Travelers request a trip and choose from the options our team sends.

Who handles consent forms and chaperone checks?

Your school, under its own policy. silentVIP books the travel for the people your school has approved to go.
